Fictional Nation Profile: The Russian Reich (CD)

The Russian Reich was a short-lived fascist Russia that lasted from the Great Depression of 2016 to the end of the 2nd Russian Civil War in 2023. The nation was created when a General in the Russian Army named Viktor Karzhov staged a coup d'etat in the Russian Federation amid the chaos of the 2nd Great Depression, both ousting and killing President Vladimir Putin. Despite Putin's efforts to stop Karzhov's coup, he was killed when Karzhov shot him in the head with a pistol. From 2016 to 2017, the Reich conquered all of the former territories of the Soviet Union. In the beginning of 2017, Fuhrer Karzhov branded Rik Latyeskov, who was formerly the leader of the New CPRF at the time, as an enemy of the state, and proceeded to hunt him down, but without success. Latyeskov then planned a Revolution in an abandoned military base in the Ural Mountains with an old friend of his, a Spetsnaz soldier named Vladimir Ovchinnikov. Latyeskov's plan was to establish soviets in utmost secrecy all throughout the former Republics. When the Revolution was sprung on November 7th, 2017 (exactly 100 years after its predecessor), it mostly succeeded, except for Siberia, which was devoutly Karzhovist. The Revolution forced Karzhov to flee Moscow and reform his base of operations in the port city of Magadan, thus sparking the events of the 2nd Civil War. Karzhov initiated a counter-attack that nearly ended Latyeskov's plans but Soviet General Sergei Vasilov brought reinforcements to push them back over the Ural Mountains. The Soviets and the Fascists clashed in Siberia with a 4 year World War 1 style stalemate that lasted from 2018-2022. Finally, the remnants of the Russian Reich's defenses crumbled due to lack of supplies and manpower, and the Soviets charged towards Magadan. Latyeskov ordered now-Marshal of the New Soviet Armed Forces, Sergei Vasilov, to besiege the North-Western side of the city with artillery while the Navy blockaded it from the South-East. In August of 2023, the siege finally broke the morale and resolve of Karzhov and his men, who staunchly defended the city. After Karzhov was killed during the fighting in August, the Treaty of Reunification was signed almost a year and a quarter later, on December 25th, 2024. This treaty concluded a year-long effort to rebuild the nation's infrastructure and would prepare for a transition that would reunite the Soviet nations that have fought as allies for over almost 7 years.
